Sarah Taylor would like to nominate Val Hawkwood. She says Val uses her own time to research and find resources to offer a variety of activities to people that attend The Beacon day support service. She has also done a fantastic job of facilitating our new Active Bodies Active Minds group, in addition she has visited other groups to encourage more people to join. Lynne Lydstone also nominated Val for the same reason.

Sarah is also nominating Tom Hawkwood. Tom stepped in at the last minute to talk about the Dementia Support service at our organisational induction despite only having been in the team for a short time himself. Tom talked passionately about all the support that is available and also gave some useful tips from his Support at Home experience as we had two new care workers present.

She would also like nominate Karen German for going above and beyond. We recently had a very distressed lady whose husband had recently been discharged from hospital. The gentleman was having difficulties and Karen kindly went out to see them to help resolve the situation. She has also covered the helpline on a number of occasions and her help is, as always, much appreciated.

Sarah is also nominating Sherrie Boyd for spending several hours with the same couple whilst on call awaiting support from health services as the wife was so distressed.

Sarah has another nomination for Angela Kirby for her work with a younger gentleman with a rare form of dementia who is very isolated and lonely. She arranged to take him to Danson House to view ceilings that he had painted when he was working. This was very rewarding for the gentleman and was a great example of how we always see the person first!

Sarah also wishes to nominate Kristy Adams and Lynda Petley. She says “Kristy has successfully nominated the Dementia Buddy Scheme for an award which has been shortlisted and they have both been successful in building our Buddy volunteers up to 31 in a very short space of time.”

Karen German would like to nominate Lynda for all her support when she delivered Dementia Awareness Training and a Dementia Friends Session . She would also like to nominate Lynne Lidstone for her IT support and general help when working on the PC.

Kelly Clark would like to nominate Lisa Barlow for giving up her time to help out. Kelly said she is a Superstar! She would also like to nominate Shona Gifford for helping out, very often last minute. She said Shona is always so kind and gracious and she thanks her so much.

Helen Caller would like to nominate Lisa Barlow for her support she gave her this month during a family crisis. Not only did Lisa cover Helen’s calls whilst she was unable to work, Lisa also babysat Helen’s granddaughter the next day so that Helen could work and not be out of pocket. Lisa did all this for Helen whilst she was on annual leave.

We all would like to nominate Tom Hawkwood for always creating a positive atmosphere in the office.

Abbie Boyd would like to nominate Rachel Swain for star of the month for really getting involved with Lightful and taking the initiative to create her own social media posts. It’s so great to be able to show our supporters the amazing work that goes on in The Beacon, especially when its coming from people there in the moment!

Michelle Wingfield would like to nominate Vilma Tarvyde for helping her out with a client over the Bank Holiday weekend and for all her help and support.

Last but not least, Katie Antill and Sarah Taylor would like to nominate the café team for showing great resilience and resourcefulness at what has been a very challenging time.
