Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Services Packs a Punch!

On Tuesday 22nd January we held a fun taster of Boxing for Dementia, all thanks to funding by the Partiger Trust which we are using to look at activities to offer people living with dementia.

Sarah Taylor arranged the session with Olympia Boxing CIC who are a group founded on the back of the London 2012 Olympics.  They as England boxing coaches believe there is a demand for Olympic style boxing from various organisations such as schools and communities.  After the success of their Boxing For Parkinsons programme we thought why not give it a go?

It was attended by a small group and supported by Karen German, Sherrie Boyd and Abbie Boyd.

We also had a special guest appearance from Team GB Boxer Cheavon Clarke who was an absolute hit (excuse the pun) with the group! Everyone was so interested to hear about his accomplishments as a Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist and his focus on the road to the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

We managed to get some great footage which blew up across social media which only increase when Team GB posted it on their channels too!

I think its safe to say the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all – one of our participants said, “This is the most fun I have had in a long time”

A massive thank you to Wayne Smith from Olympia Boxing for facilitating the session and also thanks to Cheavon for taking the time out to come and join in the fun!
